We ❤️ a good assessment! On February 14th, all 11th grade students will participate in the ASVAB assessment, often thought of as the "Military Test," though it's much more than that. Students will have the opportunity to use their scores on the test to explore their strengths and postsecondary opportunities both in the military and out. See the link below to learn more about the Career Exploration Program and find prep materials to help you succeed on test day. Breakfast will be provided, so rest up and come ready to show us what you know! https://www.officialasvab.com/counselors-educators/asvab-career-exploration-program/

On March 27th, the Mid-Buchanan RV School District will host a Career Fair for students in 5th-12th grade. Groups will be divided by grade levels (5/6, 7/8, 9/10, 11/12) with each group coming in shifts between 9AM-1PM. Activities included in the Career Fair will be developmentally appropriate for each group, meaning they'll be exploratory for 5-10th grade and more informational/preparatory for our 11th and 12th grade students. We would like to invite members of our community to join us! If you're in a professional field that our students would be interested in pursuing and are willing to join us for a Career Fair, please RSVP below. Additional details will be sent to your email closer to the event date. We appreciate your support of Mid-Buchanan R-V School District and our students. We look forward to hosting our first Career Fair and hope to see you there! To RSVP: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLScvTNpNmsUYf6JWbTmAMLuy3RX1T8ETcRYn4TfePvbkVGFFbw/viewform

Mrs. Wilmes' Nutrition students modified brownie recipes to accommodate different dietary needs, then taste-tested their modifications. It seems they enjoyed some modifications more than others. #BeADragon

This past Monday, Paige Burns, Rosie Adams, Reanne McCauley, and Nicole Kneib were recognized for the January Board Spotlight. Ms. Burns does an excellent job providing support to our students in reading success. Ms. Burns has helped with the learning and development of the reading success plans. She continues her professional growth by attending the area Title I Network and is in the second year of LETRS training to stay current on the best interventions to improve student reading. Ms. Adams, Ms. McCauley, and Mrs. Kneib are implementing departmentalization in the third grade for the 23 - 24 school year. They collaborate consistently using student data to drive instruction in each of their classrooms. Dragon Nation is proud of the work you do!

January 16, 2024 Dear Parent or Guardian: Mid-Buchanan will participate in the National Assessment of Educational Progress (NAEP) on February 28. NAEP is the largest nationally representative and continuing assessment of what students know and can do in various subjects. NAEP is administered by the National Center for Education Statistics, within the U.S. Department of Education. NAEP is different from our state assessments because it is a common measure of achievement across the country. The results are released as The Nation’s Report Card, which provides information about student achievement to educators, parents/guardians, policymakers, and the public. Your child (will/may) take a mathematics, reading, or science assessment. In addition to subject-area questions, students voluntarily complete NAEP survey questions. These questions provide valuable information about participating students’ educational experiences and opportunities to learn both in and outside of the classroom. More information about NAEP survey questions is available at https://nces.ed.gov/nationsreportcard/parents under the section “What Questions Are on the Test?” The assessment takes about 120 minutes for most students, which includes transition time, directions, and completion of survey questions. The information collected is used for statistical purposes only. Your child’s grades will not be affected. Students may be excused for any reason, are not required to complete the assessment, and may skip any question. While the assessment is voluntary, NAEP depends on student participation to help policymakers improve education. However, if you do not want your child to participate, please notify me in writing by January 21, 2024. There is no need to study in preparation for NAEP, but please encourage your child to do their best. Contact Mrs. Schwope at cschwope@midbuchanan.k12.mo.us if you have any questions. We are excited that our school is participating in NAEP. We know that Mid-Buchanan’s students will show what our nation’s students know and can do. Sincerely, Chantelle Schwope 7-12 Principal Mid-Buchanan R-V School District National Center for Education Statistics (NCES) conducts the National Assessment of Educational Progress to evaluate federally supported education programs.
