Congratulations to Riley Fetters and Camy McGinely on earning second place in the junior documentary division today at the state level for National History Day. They will present their documentary "9/11: A Turning Point in Anti-Terrorism" at the national level in Washington D.C. in June.
Today Dragons flew high at the 2024 Maverick MAP assembly! Students worked individually or in groups to create a launch pad and airplane to take flight. Students geared up for success for the MAP test next week while having a blast launching airplanes. Students showed perseverance, positivity, and patience throughout the process.

I am beyond thrilled to continue working with the elementary school as the new elementary principal. Over the past 4 years, I have gained valuable experience as the assistant principal. Recently, our district has seen many changes both in enrollment, as well as the building itself. As an elementary team, we have worked to pursue our culture of excellence, and I look forward to building on these structures. I have enjoyed building relationships with the students and their families, and I am honored to continue this in my new position. Meet Jamie Barnard, a familiar face in our Mid-Buchanan community and our new elementary assistant principal. Jamie's roots run deep in our district, having been a lifelong resident and graduate of Mid-Buchanan.
Jamie and her husband Darrin have been integral members of our community, raising their children, Jake and Lauren. With Jake as a senior and Lauren in seventh grade, the Barnard family is deeply connected to our school.
Jamie's passion for education ignited at North Platte Elementary, where she spent 14 years nurturing young minds in second grade. For the past six years, she has continued her journey at Edison Elementary in St. Joseph, shaping the lives of fifth graders. Jamie is thrilled to return to her roots at Mid-Buchanan, fulfilling a lifelong dream of serving as an assistant principal.
As she embarks on this new chapter, Jamie eagerly anticipates reconnecting with familiar faces and creating new relationships. Her dedication to our district and her commitment to student success make her an invaluable addition to our team.

Mid-Buchanan High School students experienced a simulated crash and presentation from the MO State Troopers, Buchanan County EMT and Sheriffs office this morning. They also heard from the family of Savannah Domann whose life was tragically cut short by a drunk driver. The presentation emphasized the consequences of driving distracted or under the influence of drugs/alcohol. We encourage you to take this opportunity to talk to your students about making safe choices, whether behind the wheel or as a passenger. Have a safe weekend, Dragon Nation!!
