2013-2014 Dual Credit English or English IV Students:
Summer School will be in session June 3rd through June 28th this year. All students in Kindergarten through ninth grade during the 2013-2014 school year are invited to attend. This is a great opportunity for students to keep academic skills sharp, while having fun at the same time. Students with perfect attendance during summer school will receive $100 at the end of the summer school session. Those students with 7 or fewer hours absence will receive $75, and students missing from 7 to 14 hours attendance will receive $50. Enrollment forms may be picked up in either the elementary or high school office or by clicking on the link below. For those students needing before &/or after school care, Athena will be open. Seniors – the William Toben King Scholarship is now available. This scholarship is only awarded to seniors in Buchanan or Andrew Counties. Applicants must have a minimum ACT of 18 and gpa of 2.5. The amount awarded varies because it meets any un-met financial need. The postmark deadline is June 1, but please turn it in to the Guidance Office by May 28. Corcentric – $1,000 by writing 500 or less on how to help children learn about money. Deadline May 24. Application at http://www.corcentric.com/If you would like, you may read Atlas Shrugged and complete the requirements for the Atlas Shrugged Essay Contest (one essay – must be a minimum of 800 words and no more than 1,600 words in length). If you chose to complete these tasks and turn in a copy of your contest entry to Ms. Crowder by September 16th, 2013, you will receive 100 percent for your first and second quarter outside reading assignments.
A handout with the essay contest rules and possible prizes is available in my room. I also have a few copies of the book (first come, first serve). Since the book is over 1,000 pages in length, I highly recommend that you complete this assignment over the summer.

Any 7th grade student entering 8th grade in the 2013-2014 school year, must have their Tdap immunization record on file with the school nurse. Students will not be able to attend school until this is done.

Mid Buchanan Jr. High & High School will be requiring all of our student athletes for the 2013-2014 school year to take a baseline concussion test. Heartland Health of St Joseph’s Sports Medicine Dept will hold several test. The first testing date is May 22nd at Mid Buchanan. HS students will test from 9-12, followed by JH students (including 6th grade) from 12-3. The second testing date will be on Saturday, July 27th during our annual physicals held here at Mid Buchanan.
