Extensions

An extension is a tool that can be added to your chrome browser to increase your ability to interact with web pages. You must be using Google Chrome to use and download your extensions. Visit the chrome store to find extensions.

Screencastify

Grades: All

Screencastify allows users to record screencasts, videos, or a combination of both to share with others. It can be used as a resource for teachers to communicate information to students as well as an assessment tool for students to share what they know. Our district has a premium subscription for this tool. Tip: Upload all screencastify videos to YouTube to make downloads and viewing easier for students with limited internet access.

Mid-Buchanan already subscribes to the premium version of this extension. It is already loaded into your chrome browser. Look for the following icon:

Natural Reader

Grades: All

Free text-to-speech web extension that allows users to have any text read out loud to them that is showing on their screen. You have options to change the speed, highlighting color, and type of voice you would like to have read to you. It also has the option for closed captions and closed captions that are shown in dyslexic font.

Add to Google Drive

Grades: All

This extension allows users to easily add material they find on the web into their Google Drive. When you are on a page you would like to add to your drive, simply click on the icon for the extension and it will be automatically added to your drive.

One Click Screenshot

Grades: All

This extension allows for users to quickly and easily take a screenshot on their computer. Simply click on the camera icon on your extension bar and a new tab will open up for you to preview, edit, and download your screenshot.

Web Paint

Grades: All

Web paint allows its users to annotate on anything in your web browser. Click on the paint icon in your extension bar and select from a variety of annotating options and also take a screenshot of those annotations if you like.

Google Calendar

Grades: All

This extension allows users to see their tasks for the day that are entered on their Google Calendar without having to open up the full Google Calendar app. Simply click on the Google Calender extension icon and it will show you your schedule and appointments for the day.

Emoji Keyboard

Grades: All

This extension allows you to easily input emojis into your text. Emojis are great for creating icons to communicate certain information to students. Some examples are listed below:

Equatio

The EquatIO extension allows you to create mathematical equations, formulas and more, directly on your computer.

Google Meet Plus

Grades: All

Google Meet Plus (GMP) is a Chrome extension that provides a set of very useful and fun features to Google Meet. It allows Google Meet users to collaborate, interact, and having fun with each other in real-time within an active Google Meet session. The free version of this extension allows you to mute the entire classroom in one click, use a whiteboard while providing instruction, playing premade trivia for teambuilding, setting timers, and much more.

*Note: It is not an interactive whiteboard so students are not going to be able to edit your whiteboard. HOWEVER, if students also have the app, they could complete work on their own whiteboard and share their screen with you.
