Dear Parents,

Reading for pleasure inside and outside of school has real and long lasting benefits.  It unlocks the power of information and imagination and helps children discover who they are. Here are some things you can do to help children develop stronger reading skills and a love for reading.

  • Set the example. Let children see you read.
  • Have a collection of books in your home. Update your collection routinely to keep pace with changing tastes and reading skills.
  • Support our book fair and allow your children to choose their own books to read.

At this time we are hoping to hold a “normal fair” as it is best to visit the fair with your student to help them select books that everyone can enjoy.  We will have some COVID-19 guidelines that we will share as we get closer to the fair and know how things are going in our world.  Here’s this year’s fair dates and times, which are also subject to change::

Monday, September 14 - 7-9 am and 3-5pm

Tuesday, September 15 - 3-6pm

Wednesday, September 16- 4-7pm

Thursday, September 17 - 1-4pm (Students only from 1-3)

Also, we are looking for volunteers to help work the fair.  Please visit our fair website (https://www.scholastic.com/bf/midbuchananelemschool1) and click on the volunteer section to sign up.  If you need help with the website, feel free to email me at mkelly@midbuchanan.k12.mo.us

Sale flyers will be sent home closer to the fair. . Please visit the fair or the fair webpage (https://www.scholastic.com/bf/midbuchananelemschool1) for a larger selection!

We hope to see you at the fair.

Mrs. Kelly, Librarian
